4 out of 5 stars Works fine!   July 19, 2010
Richard A. Falenski (York, PA)
It's a little bulky and difficult to use, but it does work and it enables me to take my Canon XSi places I could only take a point and shoot before. I probably won't use it under water but you never know. I bought it so I could take my camera in our canoe and to the beach. I still look through the viewfinder, but if you use it underwater you will need live view on your camera. The pictures come out pefectly, you can't tell you took them through glass. I could have spent $1200 to get one of the fancy ones that work perfectly, but for $80 this ones just fine.

4 out of 5 stars Great Value Option   March 16, 2010

I bought this product for a snorkeling trip after previously using cheap disposable under water film cameras. The opteka underwater housing worked perfectly and was easy to use protecting my 450D and allowing me to take all the shots I wanted.

For anyone wanting to do the same, I recommend this product highly, and offer a couple of tips to make life easier. If you can, put some extra weight in the bottom of the bag, its natural buoyancy made diving down a bit tricky, and the pressure when underwater tends to push the bellows and lens cover back on to the camera impeding the autofocus, I found that I needed to hold the lens cover off the front of the camera in order for it to work.

1 out of 5 stars absolutely horrible product!   January 9, 2010

This housing is absolutely horrible for my Canon T1i and 5D MarkII. One of the main problems with this housing is that there is no way to firmly secure the camera or the lens in the housing. Thus the lens and the camera bangs around on the inside of the housing. It's also difficult if not impossible to change the focal length of the lens when the camera in in the bag. I dared not risk taking my camera into the ocean here in Maui in fear of damaging my camera or lens. Thus this "waterproof housing" never once made it into water of any sorts, but instead quickly made it back into the shipping box it was sent in. I called the company to get a return number and packed it up immediately. This was before Christmas. To add insult to injury, as of today, Jan 8th I have yet to receive my refund. My main comment on this review, don't waste your time or money investing in this product. Bottom line is: you get what you pay for. Most likely I will have to bite the bullet and buy a real housing like an Ikelite that costs almost twice as much as my Canon T1i.

with warm aloha to all you mermen and mermaids out there seeking a good waterproof housing ~~~~

3 out of 5 stars Underwater housing for digital cameras   December 31, 2009

This was larger and clumsier to handle than expected - the plastic is rigid and might be difficult to manipulate underwater. Also, there is no detailed manual that tells step by step how to close the housing for optimal waterproofing. Leaves some doubt as to if one is really closing it correctly and if it will work underwater. Says to perform a "tissue test" first to see if it leaks, but then one takes the tissue out and puts the real camera inside and who is to say the housing is closed exactly the same as it was for the tissue test?
